So you are interested in research.....
Undergraduate research is an awesome way to get hands-on experience in biology. It is a lot of work but is very rewarding! You will build critical thinking skills, improve your communication skills, and make a contribution to our understanding of nature. The experience you gain doing research looks great on a professional school or graduate school application. The skills you hone while doing research will serve you for a lifetime.

Students working in my laboratory can assist with ongoing studies. However, I strongly encourage involvement in your OWN research project. With my guidance, you will read papers to locate gaps in our knowledge and develop a hypothesis and experiment to help fill that gap. You will be involved in all phases of the scientific process from idea development to sharing your discoveries with a diverse audience. If you find what our lab does interesting and want to get involved in undergraduate research, contact me at rickey.cothran@swosu.edu.
